Natural Carpet Constructions

The basic principle is to remove all the vegetation and ameliorate sand into the existing profile to ensure this is free draining.

We then restore the levels and add primary and secondary drainage across the pitch. After the drainage is installed, we then spread approximately 900tons of fibre sand to stabilise the top 75mm.

Growing-in time:

6-8 WEEKS

Project length:

3 WEEKS

The following diagram tries to illustrate the pitch profile. You can see how the primary and secondary drainage combined with the sand amelioration and fibre sand channels the water away from the surface, whilst giving you stability in the surface.

Advantages:

  • Drains far more effectively than a soil based pitch
  • Stays relatively stable in wetter conditions

Disadvantages:

  • Grass cover is not guaranteed in hi wear areas
  • Will require topping up with fibre every few years (approx. £50k per pitch
  • Annual renovation is essential
    (approx. £12-17k per pitch)
